Kev’Vion Ray Schrubb’s Athletic Scholarship

Kev’Vion attended and played football at Central East High School, where his passion for football was evident when you watched him play. He played on the Varsity football team for the Central Grizzlies for three years and contributed to both of their undefeated seasons. Kev’s passion for football earned him a full-ride scholarship to Western Colorado University, where he played defensive back. Kev was deeply loved by his teammates and coaches.  He will always be remembered on the football field for his passion, his style, and laughter.  

Selections will be based on:

*If you have a full-ride athletic scholarship, you cannot apply.

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA

  • Participate in the African-American High School Recognition Program

  • Graduating High School Senior

  • Played a sport in High School (at least 4 years)

  • Letter (1) of reference from a coach that you played for

  • Plan to enroll in an accredited post-secondary school and provide a copy of your high school transcript.

  • If selected for a scholarship, the recipient must submit proof of enrollment

  • Must reside in the Fresno Area 

Application Questions

Answer the following questions which are used to get to know your personality, background, interests, and achievements in your own unique voice. Each response should be a minimum of 100-200 words per question.

  1. Why would you like to attend college? Discuss your career and personal goals. Are there any circumstances, school experiences, or people that influenced your preparation or motivation to attend college (e.g., cultural/financial background, family, teachers, schools you attended)? Please explain.

  2. What sport did you play? Discuss your worse sports performance, what did you learn from this experience? What is one important lesson you learned from your time as a high school athlete? 

  3. Kevvy’s Vision Project was established in honor of Kev’Vion. Kev’Vion loved Fresno and the foundation was established to give back to the Fresno community.  What do admire about the Kevvy’s Vision Project and how will you give back to your community in the future? (maybe for the question we can list the website link so they can do their research)

  4. Beyond what has already been shared in your application, what do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for the Kev’Vion Ray Schrubb Athletic Scholarship?
