The Novia Walton Medical Scholarship 

Novia Walton was a strong ambitious, compassionate woman. Novia’s work in the medical field was her passion. She loved helping and caring for people in need, and always took her job very seriously. Novia left a remarkable impression on every client that she came across. Novia will always be remembered for her dedication to her job, clients, and her love for her family.

Selections will be based on:

  • Minimum 2.7 GPA

  • Participate in the African-American High School Recognition Program

  • Graduating High School Senior

  • Letter (1) of reference from school personnel (teacher, counselor, coach)

  • Major in the medical field (medical-related)

  • Plan to enroll in an accredited post-secondary school and provide a copy of your high school transcript

  • If selected for a scholarship, the recipient must submit proof of enrollment

  • Must reside in the Fresno Area

Application Questions

  • Answer the following questions which are used to get to know your personality, background, interests, and achievements in your own unique voice. Each response should be a minimum of 100- 200 words per question.

    • Why would you like to attend college? Discuss your career and personal goals. Are there any circumstances, school experiences, or people that influenced your preparation or motivation to attend college (e.g., cultural/financial background, family, teachers, schools you attended)? Please explain.

    • Discuss your decision to pursue a medical career. When did you decide to major in the medical field, and why?

    • Thinking of examples from your recent past, how would you assess your empathy and compassion?

    • Beyond what has already been shared in your application, what do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for the Novia Walton Medical Scholarship?
